The Chicago Bulls came into TD Garden and walked away with a win over the Boston Celtics, 106-102 to take a 1-0 series lead! Bulls played a solid first half as they led 48-46 after two quarters. Bulls dominated the Celtics in the paint. They out-scored the Celtics 30-16 in the paint in the first half. Robin Lopez had 12 points and eight rebounds after two quarters. Bulls 16 offensive rebounds in the first half were a franchise Playoff record for offensive rebounds in a half.
Jimmy Butler finished with 30 points (23 in 2nd half), 9-19 FGs (3-5 from the 3 point line), 9-12 on FTs, nine rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Bobby Portis finished with 19 points on 8-10 shooting. Bobby also had nine rebounds. This is what I call Chicago Bulls Basketball. Bulls success scoring down low is the biggest reason why they won this game. Bulls were crashing the offensive board. They finished the game with 53 rebounds. Bulls grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and were feasting on Boston in the paint. It was a great team performance.
Bobby Portis played very well and was engaged on both ends of the floor. He didn’t take not one bad shot and he actually play great defense. Butler and Portis combined for 35 points in the second half. Robin Lopez tied his career Playoff high with 8 offensive rebounds. Lopez finished with a double double. Jimmy Butler’s two free throws with 3.3 seconds left iced matters after a nervous final minute by the Bulls. The Bulls missed their first 11 3-point shots but rallied to make 7 of their last 14. Bulls didn’t steal this game, they took it. They respect the Celtics, but they don’t fear them. Game two is Tuesday night. Let’s keep it going. Go Bulls!
