The Chicago Blackhawks have signed 26-year-old free-agent defenseman Jan Rutta. TSN’s Pierre LeBrun was the first to report the signing. Rutta turns 27 in July and has spent the last four seasons playing for the Pirati Chomutov in the Czech Extraliga. He was second among Czech Extraliga defensemen in this past season. Rutta had 32 points, which included eight goals and 24 assists, in 46 games during the 2016-17 season. Rutta, who is 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, is a right-handed defenseman. He was teammates with Blackhawks defenseman Michal Kempny on the Czech Republic national team at the World Cup and World Championship this past season.
