Chicago Cubs win series against Arizona!

In stark contrast to last nights game, where the Chicago Cubs didn’t get a run until the 9th, the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks started off with a bang. The Cubs quickly got a run in the 1st, thanks to Kris Bryant scoring off a wild pitch. Another run was added in the 2nd inning thanks to an RBI double by Jon Jay. The score was quickly 2-0 going into the 3rd.

With Jake Arrieta pitching and Victor Caratini catching, the duo made quick work against the D-backs. Allowing only a few hits, the pair wasted no time retiring their opponents.

Things got bumpy in the 5th, when Arrieta walked two in a row, followed by a sac bunt to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd, with only one out. Ketle Marte scored on a David Peralta sac fly, making it 2-1 going into the 6th.

The Cubbies got some insurance runs, when Javier Baez hit his 17 homer of the season, bringing in 3 in the 8th, making it 5-1. Followed immediately by pinch hitter Ian Happ smashing a solo homer of his own, with the score now at 6-1.

Bryant hit his 21st homer of the season in the 9th, making it 7-1.

Paul Goldschmidt was able to hit a home run off of reliever Wade Davis in the 9th, making it 7-2.

The Cubs are now finished playing west coast teams for the regular season, and will now face the Cincinnati Reds in a 4 game set, followed by a weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The majority of the teams they face from now on are sub .500.

There’s still a lot of baseball to be played, and anything can happen, but for now, fly the W Cubs nation.

They are in sole possession of first place, thanks to the Cardinals losing their game.
