Cubs, Quintana shut out Brewers

After yesterday’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Chicago Cubs really needed a W today to help secure their spot in the postseason.

Kris Bryant got the Cubs on the board first, with an RBI double in the 4th. Willson Contreras hit a single, putting men on the corners with only one out for Ben Zobrist. He struck out, bringing up Addison Russell as the last chance to get some more runs in the inning. He struck out ending the inning, Cubs lead 1-0 going to the bottom of the 4th.

Ben Zobrist added to the Cubbies lead in the 7th, with a huge two run homer, making it 3-0 going into the stretch.

Jon Jay led off the 8th with a single, followed by KB walking, Anthony Rizzo brought both of them in with a two run double, making it 5-0.

Pitcher Jose Quintana was looking awesome on the mound, going 9 solid shutout innings, and allowing only three hits.

The Cubbies remain in first place in the NL Central, and the magic number is now 2! They play the Cardinals in St. Louis on a 4 game series.
