Despite the solo home run, pitcher Jon Lester looked better than he did in his last outing; he looked to still struggle with some control however. He was replaced by Brian Duensing in the 7th, with the score still 8-1.
The Cards got a run in the bottom of the 7th, off a solo home run, making it 8-2. Hector Rondon came in to replace Duensing after the homer, and quickly put an end to the inning. 8-1 going to the 8th.
Tommy La Stella added to the lead in the 8th, with an RBI single, making it 9-2, with two on, two out for Jon Jay. He brought in Ian Happ, with a single, making it 10-2, with two on, two out for KB. He walked, bringing up Rizzo with the bases loaded. He grounded out, ending the inning.
With the win tonight, the Cards are eliminated, and the Cubs will go for the division clinch tomorrow. As long as the Brewers lose Tuesday, the Cubbies will get to celebrate. They will play the Cards the next 3 days.
